I try to take a shot of everyone in attendance at the wedding. Either with one large group shot from a balcony or stairway, or even using a ladder. In addition, I like to go around durng the reception after all of the formal shots are over and shoot individual tables and groups of guests. This is also a good time to catch those off beat moments of silliness or sweetness that usually occur during the reception.
Second quick tip:
I will always use fill flash outside after the ceremony, or during posed shots. I typically set my strobe and 1/2 or 1/4 power so I wont blast out the highlights on the brides gown or the over all scene. Furthermore, using fill flash is particularly important to use in backlit or midday shooting where there can be a lot of shadows or mottled lighting, and when you are in a shaded area.
