Depth of field is term photographers use to measure the range of distance within the subject that is acceptably sharp. The depth of field varies depending on camera type, aperture and focusing distance.
Therefore, to attain the greatest depth of field, or having the foreground as well as the background in focus, one must focus to the hyper-focal distance, huh? The optimum focus range for your camera and lens.
To accomplish this one should focus (manually) about a third of the way into the space you want in focus. Then, stop the lens down with the DOF preview (most cameras have one check your owners manual) and then view the shot through the finder or by the live view (if available). Next, while in the preview mode, focus the lens closer until the foreground just comes into focus. If you want more depth select a bigger (stop down the lens) F-number and try it again.
