Flower Power

Not many photographers will pass up an opportunity to capture images of a bed of beautiful flowers.

The vibrant, intense colors of flowers typically inspires the shooter and they begin to fire away. Later, they end up being disappointed after they view their results that don't have the impact they envisioned.

Some flower power tips so to help avoid a pollen hangover.

1. Get low down...a low vantage point to put your camera's eye on the level and same plane as the flowers.Shooting down from above gives you too many leaves and stems distracting from the flower itself. A low vantage point also allows you to create a defocused background which will add depth to the shot.

2. Use a wide angle lens to add pleasing distortion and angles to the shot. Get close and shoot wide.

3. Outstanding in its field...pick one flower and have it stand out as your focal point in your composition. It doesn't need to be in the center of your image, rather use the rule of thirds to help you place it.

4. Watch out for bees. They can be very territorial and often don't care for artists.
