System Switch
A nifty article in Popular Photography magazine's February 2013 issue reminds us all about adapting lenses to fit another system or brand. And, (according to the article) we can do this without losing our existing inventory of lenses. In many cases you may be able to use an adapter and continue to use the lenses from your former system. " This is true when switching between manufacturers (such as from Nikon to Canon) or between systems within the same brand (such as Leica screw mount to Leica M)..."
Adapter Options
These days there is no shortage of adapters available. There are plenty of reputable adapters on the market and some stinky ones as well. Some of the brands listed in the Popular Photography article include names such as: Adaptimax, Bower, CameraQuest, Fotodiox, Novoflex,Vello,Voigtlander, and more. As always do your homework and check sources. Cheap adapters on places like eBay can be good and not so good.
Adaptable Systems
Not all systems are created equal when it comes to adapting alternative lenses for use. Nikon cameras seem to be the least adaptable and Canon DSLRS are arguable the most adaptable due to there larger sized lens mount compared to Nikon. Thus, again do your homework before investing in a system and adapters to go along with that system.
