Tovrea castle a Phoenix icon since the late 1920's.
We were offered a personal tour and special viewing of
the Tovrea Castle (the wedding cake house on Washington St.) last
weekend by our friend, and castle docent, Johanna Howard. Great fun. We
learned so much about the history behind the castle. Cool stuff...
The Carraro Story
To this day, the unusual looking structure sitting atop the knoll
near what is now East Van Buren and 52nd Street, remains a curiosity to
Valley residents and passersby. Resembling a wedding cake or castle,
Tovrea Castle at Carraro Heights has a rich and interesting history – a
history that began with the vision of one man, Alessio Carraro.
